Robert Mayer graduated from Albany Law School after earning his BS in Economics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York. He maintained a general practice on Long Island and New York City after his admission to the New York State Bar in 1977. Rob represented plaintiffs in personal injury litigation, practiced in real estate and advised small business organizations. He was admitted to the US District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
Rob served as an arbitrator for The Civil Court, City of New York Compulsory Arbitration Program, sat as a Court Appointed Hearing Officer for the Supreme Court of New York and was a Voluntary Arbitrator for Long Island Better Business Bureau “Lemon Law” cases.
Rob relocated to Florida and was admitted to the Florida Bar in 2004 and later to practice before the US District Courts of the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida. He served as an Adjunct Professor, teaching Paralegal Studies at Kaplan College.
Rob represented defendants in general liability matters for 8 years with one of the largest insurance defense firms in Florida. He litigated cases that included general contractor disputes and diverse matters involving construction methods, practices and procedures. Consultations with experts and on-site inspections were part of the process. Rob conducted trials of first-party disputes between homeowners and their insurance companies, motor vehicle and premises accidents, HOA disputes, and contract issues. He subsequently practiced for over 5 years with a boutique law firm in the field of insurance defense of residential first party claims, further honing his knowledge of the construction industry in Florida.
Rob is certified as a Circuit Civil Court Mediator by the Florida Supreme Court and has mediated well over 200 cases including many first-party disputes. His background has enabled him to analyze repair estimates as well as construction proposals and invoices . Rob is also an approved FINRA Dispute Resolution Arbitrator.
When Rob is not practicing law he finds time to participate in charitable runs and half-marathons. He is a “handy-man” with hands-on experience repairing just about everything around the house. This experience helps him to understand the issues presented in mediation of matters touching upon residential construction. Rob enjoys pursuing his lifelong passion of general aviation flying and has been a pilot for many years.
